Cabinet boxes, trim and other in-house details are completed by the homeowner, with all the coaching and know how provided by Distinctively Paint. Distinctively Paint will pick up all the doors, drawers and removable parts to be prepped and painted in our professional spray booth. This gives you the benefit of the durability of a lacquer finish on the doors and drawers, where you need it most, at significantly less cost than our full-service cabinet painting.

A Distinctively Paint colour selection and prep kit is provided so you may select your colour and begin the prepping process.
The homeowner removes all the doors and drawers and begins the prepping process.
Once the colour has been selected, we drop off the paint for the inhouse portion of the job and pick up the doors and drawers to prepped and sprayed in our commercial spray booth for maximum quality and durability where you need it most.
While the doors are at the spray booth, the homeowner completes all inhouse prep work and painting with any tools and instruction provided by Distinctively Paint.
the doors and drawers are painted, they are delivered back to the home by Distinctively Paint for re installation by the homeowner. Any tools provided for the project will be picked up at this time.

When executed by a professional, painted kitchen cabinets are very durable.  Did you know that most solid coloured, brand new, high end custom kitchens are painted? The cabinet doors are painted in a certified spray booth, just like ours, and the cabinet boxes, crowns and side panels are sprayed in house.

We’ve all seen painted kitchen cabinets that are easily scratched and a mess within the first year. The problem with diy projects like that are the three P’s – prep, product and process. 

The preparation to properly paint cabinets is extensive, taking two people a full day in house for an average sized kitchen – and that doesn’t include the prep on the doors, which happens in the spray shop. The process is meticulous and has to follow a step by step method to achieve amazing results.

The best products to use when painting kitchen cabinets are not those available to the general public. Rather we use commercial grade spray products only available to licensed professionals and meet KCMA standards. When you paint cabinets using the same products and methods used on new cabinets, they come out looking and feeling like they really are brand new!

Our Process

Kitchen Cabinet doors, drawer fronts and shelves are removed and transported to our professional spray booth where they are cleaned, prepped and painted.

Kitchen cabinet boxes are sanded, caulked and minor repairs are completed. Interior of cabinets, walls, counters, tile and appliances are masked for protection from over spray. Whenever possible temporary plastic walls will be erected to contain dust.

Spray day. Cabinet boxes, side panels, mouldings and other cabinet details are sanded again, primed & sprayed for a durable smooth finish. Homeowners may be present if a waterborne product is being used. When lacquer products are used, the homeowner and any pets must vacate the property for 24 hours from the commencement of spraying.

After kitchen cabinets are painted, we remove prep and clean up the space.  Your painted kitchen cabinets are ready for use.  But they don’t have doors just yet.

 

 Back at the spray booth cabinet pieces are thoroughly washed, sanded and filled.  Next they are sanded again, inspected for deficiencies and repaired again if required.

Doors are then primed, sanded, inspected once more, and sanded and primed again in preparation for the final colour.

Two top coats are applied, then doors and other pieces are set aside to cure.

Once cured, they are wrapped for transport back to the clients home.  Our installer will put everything back together, align doors and drawers where needed to the extent  possible and take care of any remaining details.
